Who schedules students at Otsego Middle School?
Scheduling classes for students at Otsego Middle School is a responsibility that is jointly held by both the building administration and the counseling department. In general, the school office handles the scheduling of academic classes, locker assignments, and homeroom advisers, while the counseling department assigns encore classes (music, fine arts, health, Spanish, technology, business, and physical fitness classes).
How do I change my student's academic schedule?
In general, student academic schedules are set at the beginning of each academic year, and changes are not encouraged. However, under certain circumstances, schedules can be changed with the consent and agreement of the school administration, parents, educators, and the counseling department. If you believe that an academic schedule change is necessary for your child, contact our building principal, Melissa Koenig, for an appointment and more information (692-6199).
How do I change my student's encore class schedule?
Encore classes can and do change from time to time depending on student interest and needs. Requests for encore changes should be made known to Mr. Fuller before the end of a trimester so that the changes (if approved) allow the student to begin attending any particular class from the very first day. Occasionally, exceptions to this rule are allowed, and changes can be made during the first week of a trimester. Changes to encore schedules are not allowed after the first week of a trimester.
To complete a change in a student's encore schedule, the followeing criteria must be met:
1) A "Request to Change Encore Classes" Form has been completed and returned to the OMS Counseling Department Office (forms are available in the main office as well as the counseling office).
2) Space is available in other encore classes that the student is requesting (generally, classes other than band or choir are
limited to 28 students).
3) An encore class (or classes) are available that the student isn't already scheduled to take during the academic year.
Announcements are made to the general student body informing them of these deadlines as they approach. For questions about encore class scheduling, contact Keith Fuller at (692-6199 or [email protected]).
